Our M&M Family

M&M Legacy Tax

For more than 75 years, M&M Legacy Tax has provided trusted, family-based tax preparation services built on experience, integrity, and personal attention. M & M Legacy Tax has a long standing foundation based on commitment to accuracy, compliance, and personal support to help clients navigate tax time with confidence.

The business was founded by Margaret, who began her career with formal training and tax service in 1968 in downtown Pontiac. In addition, she began preparing taxes for friends and family from her home. Over time, she built a clientele of multi-generational families and friends. Her commitment to personal attention, accuracy and high standards has helped to expand her company and provide support and direction for her clients. Her dedication established the foundation for what would become a long-standing family enterprise.

In 1974, Marge encouraged her daughter, Merrillyn, to do tax preparation in the community. For 16 years, she gained extensive experience in the tax field, where she also trained other professionals in tax preparation. Merrillyn assumed ownership of the family business, when Margaret and her husband decided to move to Georgia. Merrillyn continued to operate successfully from her home for nearly five decades. Merrillyn and Marge proudly built this business focused on dependable tax services, accuracy, and integrity for friends, family members, and community members.

Christine, Merrillyn’s daughter, became the third generation to join the business in 2018. In addition to benefitting from her mother’s years of experience, she has continued to work on formal training in tax preparation through coursework, practical real world application, and on-going professional development. In 2023, in preparation for some more flexibility for Merrillyn, Christine and her mother transitioned the company to its current storefront location on Fenton Road, marking a new chapter for M&M Legacy Tax while maintaining its long-held values of professionalism and personal service.

Although Merrillyn has formally passed some leadership to Christine, she continues to play an active role in the business while providing personal tax services to clients. Known as the “wizard” behind the scenes, she reviews returns and provides expert guidance, while gradually transitioning toward a well-earned retirement after more than 50 years of service.

Today, M&M Legacy Tax continues to uphold its reputation as a multi-generational, family-owned business dedicated to delivering exceptional tax services with the same commitment to excellence that began three generations ago.
